Final Report

Went to the final ceremony this Sunday, so this process is officially over for us. Not that we won't be continuing, but the contest portion is done. Garrett won the prize for most weight lost - a years membership at Gold's Gym - so at least he won something for all his hard work. We all got $75 GCs to RunTex, so that will at least put a dent in some new shoes there. I didn't win anything through the contest, but at least we all lost weight and are started on the right paths toward healthier lives. I may keep the blog going for personal inspiration, but haven't decided at this point. If I do, I probably won't post till October as we are going to Rome in less than a week. Thanks for all the support from everyone during this process and I will try and post our before and after pics soon.

Last Workout & Weigh In

Well we did it! We finished the program and didn't quit even with the ungodly hours and no sleep! I met my goal and lost 10lbs - so proud of myself! Garrett ended up losing 36lbs in the 6 weeks. That was 10% of his starting weight - very impressive. The final ceremony is at church on Sunday and then this will all be behind us. Garrett is planning on continuing with the personal trainers for another 2 months (at cost of course), but I just can't deal with that schedule for another 2 months. Not to mention I just cannot put my son or parents through this ordeal any longer - everyone is too sleepy.

I'll post our final challenge post on Sunday after the final awards. I know at the very least we all get free shoes from Run-Tex, so that is worth it alone. Even though I know that Garrett lost more weight than anyone else in the program, I am very doubtful that he will get the final prize. He never went to church, only went to one life coaching session, and won't be at the final ceremony as he is on our family fishing trip this weekend, so they will probably give it to someone who did more of the program and will be there. Crossing my fingers that he wins one of the other prizes - we'll see. I posted my beginning and ending weight side by side below for comparison.

Winding Down

Well, we only have one week of workouts left before the final weigh in. I managed to lose 1 lb last week, but that still puts me 2lbs higher than my lowest weigh in with this program. Our final weigh in is on next Saturday, so perhaps I will weigh in better since I will have had more than 4 hours of sleep the night before. My goal was to lose 10lbs during this program, so we shall see if I can pull off another 5lbs this week.

Garrett is now up to 32lbs lost and I am so proud of him. That being said, it makes me wonder why I didn't lose weight the same way he did. Was it that the program wasn't right for me? Is it just guys losing weight faster than girls? Is mother nature to blame for screwing up my period cycle and making me bloated before weigh ins? Maybe its the fact that he is sticking absolutely to the diet and I have been just mostly sticking to it? Maybe its the 10 miles a day he walks while working? Who knows. All I know is that I haven't lost the weight I wanted to in this program. At least I am 5lbs lighter than I was when I started though!

Garrett would really like to continue with the program when the 6 weeks is over, but at $120/month (just for him), its just not in our budget. We just started our son Max at a mother's day out program and that is draining $160/month already. I wouldn't be interested in continuing because I can't make the schedule work for me. I can't have a program that makes me get only 4 hours of sleep, and while I am eternally grateful for my parents watching Max at 5am these past 6 weeks, there is no way I am asking them to continue that. They already went above and beyond for us by doing it at all. I am confident that we can keep this momentum going, but it will have to be with a more affordable option - maybe a gym or something. In a perfect world we could all afford personal trainers, but this is no perfect world.
